Junction Box
Two-piece Design to Simplify Fitting
Weidmüller designed its Photovoltaic Junction Box with IP65 protection and a max. rated current of 8.5 A solely for robot-based, fully automated production of photovoltaic modules. The junction box (1 000 V DC – IEC / 600 V DC – UL) is intended for operation in a temperature range from –40 to 85 °C and complies with the standard DIN V VDE V 0126–5:2008–05.

The housing material is RoHS compliant, free from halogens, and corresponds to flammability class 5V (UL94). Thanks to its design the junction box simplifies the production process of photovoltaic modules appreciably and helps reduce costs. The junction box helps to simplify manual production methods: The housing concept is based on a two-piece design with top and bottom parts to simplify fitting procedures through a straightforward ‘Plug & Play insert’.
This concept also supports rapid exchange if servicing becomes necessary, a procedure that does not negatively affect the ingress protection rating of the box. The box is compact with measuring a length of 162, a width of 77, and a height of 29 mm. Cables are permanently attached to the top right and left of the top part of the housing. With MC4 plug-in connectors attached to them, these connection cables enter the top part of the housing through a cable entry fitting that features a strain relief and sealing system. In comparison with conventional entry systems this permanently sealed cable entry solution has made it possible to increase cable withdrawal forces. The connection between the photovoltaic module and the junction box is a tulip contact that ensures a robust, reliable, and solder-free contact with the flat-ribbon cable.
