Panasonic to Produce Solar Wafers, Cells, and Modules in Malaysia

Greater Cost-competitiveness in Global Market

November 25, 2011

Panasonic Corporation is poised to establish a company in Malaysia that will serve as its new solar manufacturing base. Panasonic Energy Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., to be set up in December 2011, will operate a vertically-integrated solar manufacturing facility producing from wafers to cells and modules.

The parent company will invest ¥ 45 b (about € 436.5 m) in the facility, which will start operation in December 2012 with an annual production capacity of 300 MW. The new solar manufacturing base will help the company meet growing demand and make its HIT (heterojunction with intrinsic thin-layer) solar modules more cost-competitive in the global market through vertical integration.  www.panasonic.co.jp
